Gary Bull
Hi everyone and thank you for visiting my weblog, I am taking my fishing in a totally new direction and this blog is designed for anglers at all levels to hopefully gain some information, improve your skills or for those who just enjoy a read of some angling adventures.
I was born in Hampstead in London but now live in Beccles in Suffolk which offers more varied styles of angling. I was born with 2 club feet and spent most of my childhood in and out of Great Ormond Street hospital so as a child I struggled to take up sports such as football or get involved in the classic games like British Bulldog . At the age of 15 I decided to take up Carp fishing and after a couple of sessions and some good fish I was hooked (pardon the pun) into the angling world and for the next 10 years I enjoyed at a lakeside, when I got married at 25 my fishing became much more limited also with starting my career in the motor trade I never had the chance to go again so my fishing fell by the wayside.
19 years ago my world changed and was turned upside down when I was diagnosed with cancer but after successful treatment I was back at work a year later and my life was starting to move forward once again, until 12 years ago I was told I had a brain tumour, I was then retired from work so I decided to pursue my angling adventures once more. This time I decided that I would give coarse fishing a try I don't know if I preferred it more or if it was just getting that bug back of just being able to fish again but I loved every minute of it, It hasn't been easy as due to my tumour it made it very difficult to even remember the simple things like tying a hook so had to learn it all again.
I joined a local club and started competing in the open matches at Hinderclay Lakes, I really enjoyed the banter and in time once my knowledge started to grow so did my confidence and was soon competing and winning matches. 2 years ago I was delighted to be offered a part sponsorship by Steve Gregory with his company Miracle Baits again boosting my confidence, and on the back of this I decided to enter the 2014 Fish O Mania Qualifiers, I applied for 2 at known waters to me Barford Lakes & Coleman's Cottage I was reserve for both but managed to get on. It was at Coleman's Cottage where my life changed yet again after winning the match with my biggest match weight of 145lb and a ticket to the final at Cudmore Fishery.
After the most amazing experience of my life in the final and in the face of many doubters I have since been given what every competitive match angler can only dream of a chance to fish for Team (Disabled) England, this has given me a different outlook on my approach to fishing and am making the most of it, even trying new venues and baits such as Bloodworm & Joker on a canal something I never thought I would ever do, and I loved every minute of it.
For all those anglers out there that think things can't happen or you are unable to do something, it's not true even in the face of adversity if you put your mind to something, follow the right path and learn from the right people anything can be achieved, hopefully I can be an example of this.
Tight lines to all of you and I look forward to seeing many of you on the bank.
Gary
